The point is that they had options, and the one they chose was WB, which makes me entirely justified in criticising them for their repulsive choice. They could even have turned to crowdfunding if things were really so desperate.

Look me square(-enix) in the eye and tell me that Sony/Microsoft wouldn't have leapt at the chance to grab console exclusivity for a Hitman game. I certainly take issue with their choice of publisher, though, especially when they made such a fuss over them regaining the Hitman rights as if it was now in good hands again only to head over to one of the more egregiously disgusting publishers. I have no problem with them seeking out a publisher. They didn't have a choice but to find a publisher that's willing to fund the second game. They deserved to be struggling at that point. Yes, and that's largely because they destroyed most of their audience retention with Absolution and doubled down on that with various idiotic decisions for Hitman (2016). You do realize IOI was in big money troubles after going independent, right? Just look at how poorly-received Absolution was due to largely abandoning these sandbox elements. A good Hitman game is pretty similar - even if there were no real rewards for doing so, players would still try for SA ratings and "accidents". Look at Minecraft: that game is basically defined by players setting themselves goals based on the basic rules of that sandbox. At least, not being goal-oriented in terms of specifically outlined goals set by the developers. Look at it this way: if there were no designated score-based reason for people to get creative with their targets, do you think those options would be forever ignored? You seem to think so, because you're arguing that specific, developer-set goals are a requirement, whereas something like Breath of the Wild instantly shows this to be untrue due to the spectacular success of its exploration gameplay despite not being goal-oriented. Right, and you thought that not because of what he said, but because you didn't understand what a "sandbox" is in this context. I thought he was saying sandbox =!= challenges and people just liked to do creative kills for the lulz

If you don't like people being curt or abrasive with you then you can start by not setting that tone with your unqualified presumptions. Subreddit will not reopen for general use, you may view it.Then he's just confirming my point, that the challenge tracking is important for the sandbox
